Robin van Persie has cast doubt over whether he wants to pursue a career in coaching after watching his former boss Arsene Wenger.
The Dutch forward was signed by Arsenal in 2004 where he spent eight years working under the Frenchman in North London.
During that time, Van Persie won just one trophy during his time with the Gunners before leaving for Manchester United where he won the Premier League in his first season.
The lengthy spell without a trophy forced fans and pundits into putting immense pressure on Wenger, something which has made a lasting impression on Van Persie as he ponders what's next for him after retiring.
Speaking to The Athletic, he said: “Arsene was very special to me. He’s like my football dad.
“I had the privilege to work with him for eight years in a very crucial time of my career, and he was great.
“He’s a special man, not only as a coach, but as a person he’s even more special.
“Right now, I’m wondering if I want to be a coach and, having watched Arsene, I think: ‘Do I want to suffer like that? Do I want to become a coach?’”
