Robin Olsen opens up on 'perfect' Everton move and Carlo Ancelotti conversation

Goalkeeper Robin Olsen has declared that he’s come to Everton to win and insists he’s relishing the pressure that comes with the expectation of joining the Premier League leaders.

The Sweden international was drafted in as a transfer deadline day signing from Roma as he joined the Blues on a season-long loan.

With a deal for centre-back Ben Godfrey already being tied up, manager Carlo Ancelotti identified increased competition for Jordan Pickford as a priority before the window closed.

Olsen has been capped 38 times for his country but after arriving in Serie A from Copenhagen in 2018, he spent last season on loan at Cagliari.

He told evertontv : “From what I have watched this season, the team looks really, really good. They have been fantastic.

“And I hope we can continue with that now.

“I am so happy to be able to say that – ‘we’ – and to be part of this team.

“It’s a perfect atmosphere to join, I think. When it is going good for the team, everyone is happy. Everybody is positive – but they want more, too.

“This club has big ambitions and you can see that with the players they have signed.

“I understand it is a lot of pressure to play for Everton, because it is such a big club. But I like the pressure – because it puts pressure on myself also.

“You have responsibility for the shirt you wear, for the club and for the fans.

“I want to win. When you win something, that is the best feeling.

“And if you see the start we have had, you need to believe we can win something. I believe in it.”

Olsen is excited about the prospect of playing for a top manager like Ancelotti and has already spoken to the Blues boss – even though he had to ask him to switch from his native Italian tongue when they discussed his move.

The 30-year-old said: “He is a top, top coach.

“He is very respected in Italy and all over the world.

“I spoke to both Carlo Ancelotti and [Director of Football] Marcel Brands on Monday, just after the deal was closed.

“They called me to welcome me to Everton and say they were happy to bring me and were looking forward to seeing me.

“We had a short chat and it was really nice to speak with them.

“I answered the phone to the manager in Italian, and then he started to speak in Italian.

“I had to ask him to continue in English because I have problems to speak Italian – I understand but I have problems speaking!”
