Robin Koch outlines the adaptation he needs to fit into Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds United side

Leeds United's newest signing Robin Koch knows that he has work to do in order to get up to speed to Marcelo Bielsa's methods.

The German international completed a £13million move to Elland Road this weekend as the club moved to strengthen their defensive options following Ben White's return to his parent club Brighton.

Koch has now linked up with the German national side for their Nations League double-header against Spain and Switzerland, after which he will complete what is left of Bielsa's gruelling pre-season programme ahead of Leeds' Premier League bow against Liverpool on September 12.

The need for new signings to get up to speed under Bielsa has been well documented over the past two seasons and Koch is aware that he will have some adaptation to complete.

"Of course," he said after completing his transfer. "We played not exactly the same style of Leeds, so for me it's a completely new team so I have to learn new things, which is normal. I have the right attributes for the game and it will be good with the team and of course I will need some time to learn how to play with the players.

"I think it will be good."

Koch's time at Freiburg showed he possesses the versatility to play in a defensive midfield role, but he prefers to be deployed at the heart of the defence.

"Central defence is my position. We spoke a lot about the positions in the past. I feel good at both positions but I played in the national team as a central defender and I feel a bit better there."

There are less than two weeks until the new season starts and Koch could not envisage a better way to start the campaign than at Anfield.

"Liverpool in the first game of the season is a huge game. I look forward to this game.

"For me it's now time to make the step to the Premier League. I think the Premier League has more club on the top, top level. You have so many clubs that played the last season in the Champions League or the Europa League and time after time you get different champions. So many good clubs and I'm ready for this, ready for big games and I'm happy to play here in the Premier League."
