New Leeds United signing Robin Koch has opened up on how he believes Marcelo Bielsa’s style of play will work perfectly.
The Whites confirmed back in August that they had secured the services of Koch from SC Freiburg on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Bielsa has guided Leeds to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years, and Koch said he was delighted to team up with the Argentine when confirmed as a Leeds player.
"It was one of the points for me to come here to Leeds," said Koch in his first interview with the club.
The German international has gone one step further and revealed how he used videos of the Whites last season to see if he would fit into the way Bielsa sets his side up.
“I've spoken to a lot of people who are fascinated by Bielsa. Some old companions also want to get impressions from me of how the training is,” Koch told German publication Bild.
Before continuing: “For Pep Guardiola, Bielsa is the best coach in the world from what I've read. And Guardiola isn't just anyone either.
“If someone like that says something like that, there must be something behind it. I got a lot of impressions about Bielsa and the style of play, my ex-colleague Mateusz Klich from Kaiserslautern is already playing under him at Leeds, and I got an impression of him too.
“What Bielsa wants to play suits me perfectly: I got videos from Leeds, various game scenes - and then cut my own scenes into them: I realised very quickly that it worked extremely well.”
Koch has also revealed that while away on international duty with Germany, he spent time with some of his international team-mates talking about the Premier League.
“For me, the biggest attraction is that there are so many top teams and that there is a great game every second or third week,” he said.
“The level and the performance density of the teams are on average higher than in the Bundesliga, which I see as a great challenge and opportunity for me.”
