Robin Koch explains how Jesse Marsch's pre-match plan helped stifle Newcastle

Robin Koch has revealed that Leeds United worked intensively on set pieces to prepare for the threat of Newcastle United.

Leeds denied Newcastle the opportunity to extend their six-match winning streak with a dogged defensive display to earn a goalless draw at St James' Park.

Illan Meslier was forced into five saves but Leeds frustrated Newcastle to a register just their third clean sheet of the season, which Koch says the Whites had to 'fight' for.

"We knew we faced a really good team, especially at the moment they're doing really good. Especially on their home ground but we were ready for the game from the start," Koch told LUTV.

"I think the second half, it was tough to play against them, but we did good and fought as a team. They are good on set pieces, that's one of their biggest strengths. We knew that before so we knew that we had to be prepared.

"We had two days to prepare. There was a lot of video, we couldn't train too much because we had to regenerate from the Man City game. So Jesse showed us a lot of video of what they are doing so we were well prepared."
