Robin Hood trailer: Taron Egerton stars as Britain's legendary outlaw

Robin Hood‘s no stranger to cinematic adaptation, but a new take is going for pure high-octane thrills.

Kingsman: The Secret Service‘s Taron Egerton has stepped into the shoes of one of Britain’s great folklore heroes, as previously brought to the big screen by the likes of Erol Flynn (1938), Kevin Costner (1991), and Russell Crowe (2010).

Directed by Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders) and written by Ben Chandler and David James Kelly (Logan), Egerton’s Robin is joined by Jamie Foxx as Little John, here positioned as the original leader of the Merry Men, Ben Mendelsohn as the Sheriff of Nottingham, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, Tim Minchin as Friar Tuck, and Jamie Dornan as Will Scarlet.

In this telling, Maid Marian is actually married to Will Scarlet, Robin’s half-brother – so expect some love triangle drama to boot, with the film’s synopsis also promising “gritty battlefield exploits” and “mind-blowing fight choreography”.

Robin Hood also has a massive A-list name backing its corner, as it’s produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way.

Robin Hood hits UK cinemas 21 November.
