Roberto Martinez reveals Andy Robertson scouting missions when Everton boss

Roberto Martinez has confirmed he scouted both Andy Robertson and Adama Traore when Everton manager.

Writing in the Sunday Times today, the former Blues boss says he travelled to watch Robertson play for Dundee United and made a number of checks on Traore, then an 18-year-old at Barcelona.

Robertson would leave Scotland to join Hull City in 2014 for less than £3m before moving to Liverpool three years later.

A Premier League move for Traore would materialise in 2015 when he signed for Aston Villa before joining Middlesbrough and then Wolves.

Writing ahead of Liverpool's game with Wolves this evening, Martinez said: "One of the highlights of the game will be Adama Traoré up against Andrew Robertson.

"They are two players I know well.

"During my time in the Premier League I scouted both closely.

"I travelled to Dundee United to see Robertson before he moved to Hull City and you always knew he had everything for a modern footballer.

"He can defend with a back four but also produce a lot of assists.

"When Traoré was a youngster at Barcelona you could see he is someone so different with that pace, power and raw facility to go past people.

"Now he has matured and arrived at the perfect club with the perfect management of Nuno."
