Roberto Firmino will miss Liverpool's clash with Huddersfield

Roberto Firmino is set to miss title-chasing Liverpool's crunch Premier League clash with relegated Huddersfield Town at Anfield.

The Brazil striker reported to Melwood as usual on Friday morning but wasn't part of the matchday squad which later assembled at the city's Hope Street Hotel.

Jurgen Klopp later confirmed that Firmino's injury was a "muscle issue" but played down fears that the striker would face a spell on the sidelines.

"Actually, yesterday after training he mentioned a little muscle issue,” Klopp told Sky Sports.

“We assess it obviously. It’s not a big thing but was enough to leave him out today, that’s all.”

It's a fitness scare for the Reds ahead of Wednesday's Champions League semi-final first leg with Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

Klopp does have other attacking options with Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge and Xherdan Shaqiri waiting in the wings.

But Firmino's absence would be keenly felt with the No 9 having scored 16 goals already this season.

The Reds are boosted by the return of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to the matchday squad after a year out due to a serious knee injury suffered against Roma.

Liverpool, who find themselves a point behind rivals Manchester City with three matches remaining, will return to the top of the table with victory over Huddersfield.

City aren’t in action until they visit Burnley on Sunday.
