Roberto Firmino unlikely to face Barcelona - could miss the final week of the season

Jamie Carragher has claimed Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino is likely to miss the Champions League semi-final return against Barcelona.

Firmino has been struggling for fitness since suffering a small muscle tear in his groin in training last week.

The Brazilian missed the 5-0 home win over Huddersfield Town last Friday and was restricted to a late cameo in the 3-0 defeat at Barcelona on Wednesday .

Firmino failed to make even the bench for Saturday evening's Premier League visit to Newcastle United.

And Liverpool legend Carragher believes the forward could be out for the remainder of the season with the Reds welcoming Barcelona next Tuesday before ending their top-flight campaign at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers the following Sunday.

“Roberto Firmino will be struggling (to play) midweek and if he’s struggling midweek there is probably a good chance his season may be over,” said Carragher, speaking to Geoff Shreeves on Sky Sports Instagram live.

“Certainly, if Liverpool don’t make the Champions League final which looks very unlikely.

“So, one of the best players, most important players for Jurgen Klopp it looks like his season is over.”
