Roberto Firmino's message to Philippe Coutinho before he left Barcelona for Bayern Munich

Philippe Coutinho sought advice from his former Liverpool team-mate Roberto Firmino before completing a loan move from Barcelona to Bayern Munich.

Coutinho left Anfield back in January 2018 to complete a dream move to Barcelona, but found himself out of favour just 18 months on.

Manchester United were among the clubs keen to sign the Brazilian this summer as Barcelona made it clear they were open to parting company with Coutinho.

But in the end it was Bayern Munich who won the race to sign the midfielder on loan.

Prior to making up his mind to swap Spain for Germany, Coutinho contacted compatriot Firmino to ask him about his experiences in the Bundesliga.

Coutinho told SportBild: "I talked with Roberto Firmino [who knows the Bundesliga from his time in Hoffenheim] about the intensity of the Bundesliga and the tight matches there.

"He told me a lot about the different Bundesliga teams."

The Brazilian added: "Some of my Brazil team-mates asked me how things are going at Bayern.

"I told them how happy I am to be there. I had a great welcome from my team-mates, club, fans, media and want to repay it with goals and performances on the pitch."

Coutinho has represented Bayern Munich twice since his summer loan move and has been involved in two convincing victories against Schalke and Mainz.
