Roberto Firmino makes 'difficult' Liverpool admission and explains what happens next

Roberto Firmino admits he has no idea why his form has dipped at Liverpool this season - but is adamant Jurgen Klopp's side will be determined to regain their title next year.

Firmino has netted just six goals this term - and only one this calendar year - as part of a Reds side that has struggled to find the target since December

The Brazilian's inconsistent performances have seen his regular first-team place come under threat by the emergence of Diogo Jota.

And asked what has gone wrong for him, Firmino admitted: "I don't really know the answer, perhaps it's God's will.

"Maybe there's a collective factor with the team as well. It's a difficult period, but I have faith and am sure that things will improve.

"In general it's been a difficult season for our team. We're coming from a successful season winning the league title and other trophies like the Club World Cup before that.

"We have to continue fighting and getting better every day - improve defensively, tactically and most of all in attack. Anything can happen in football, we still have a chance."

Liverpool are outside the Champions League qualification places and face a sizeable task to finish in the top four this season.

But Firmino is convinced that regardless of what happens over the next month, the Reds are determined to challenge for the title again next term.

"We're going to fight until the end to be in the top four and qualify for the Champions League," he said.

"We'll come back better and work harder so that we can repeat our success and be Premier League champions again next season. We'll work hard to be champions once more.

"We have battles ahead and objectives to meet - we have to fight to take us as far as possible."

Firmino's total of 13 goal involvements - he has also supplied seven assists - is by some distance the lowest of his Reds career with only five games of the campaign remaining.

But the Brazilian is in no doubt which of netting or creating goals is the more important.

"They're both great, but I prefer scoring goals," he said, speaking to ESPN Brasil.

"It's a unique and special moment with the fans where you celebrate the goal, let it all out and feel grateful as well. The feeling of scoring a goal is something special."
