Roberto Firmino lifts lid on "sad and angry" Jurgen Klopp amid Liverpool struggles

Roberto Firmino has lifted the lid on Jurgen Klopp ’s feelings after enduring a thoroughly disappointing season at Liverpool.

Having won the Reds’ first league title in 30 years last term, Klopp’s side saw their Premier League title defence collapse after a run of six successive defeats at Anfield.

Nine defeats in the league this season have also left them scrambling for a place in the top four, while they are also on the verge of being knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid.

Firmino’s performances have epitomised Liverpool’s struggles this season, with the Brazilian scoring just six times in 40 appearances in all competitions.

Now Firmino has revealed how manager Klopp has been behind the scenes as Liverpool’s season unravelled.

“He gets sad, he gets angry. Nobody likes to lose, especially him. Our team got used to winning,” the striker told ESPN Brasil.

“But, in this difficult time, we have to analyse our negative points and turn them into positive ones. We have to look for always give our best to each game.

“We had an excellent game against Arsenal. We didn’t concede goals, we were solid in defence, we scored three goals and we won.

“Three days later, we lost a very important game for the Champions League. Especially in the first half against Real Madrid, we were very bad.”

Despite the Reds poor performances and his less than stellar season, Firmino insisted that he still striving for improvement.

“It’s been a difficult season for me. We have to be sincere, there’s no lack of hope for improvement,” he said.

“My desire is to evolve and grow every day. There’s no lack of motivation for me. I charge myself a lot. I know that I’m not at my best moment compared to the last few years.

“But I don’t give up. I’m always looking to improve to help my team to be better, together with the group. I have to evolve day after day.”
