Roberto Firmino injury update as Liverpool handed massive Champions League final boost

Liverpool's Champions League final plans have received a massive boost after Roberto Firmino returned to training.

The Brazil striker was given the green light to join his team-mates for the first session of the Reds' training camp in Marbella on Tuesday.

Firmino's workload will be slowly increased over the coming days following his recovery from a groin injury.

A specialised programme has been drawn up by club staff which will see him play a greater role in the full training sessions over the course of the week.

Barring any setbacks, Firmino is on course to take his place in the starting line up for the final showdown with Tottenham in Madrid on June 1.

Liverpool's 16-goal No 9 has missed the past three matches since aggravating the problem during a late cameo in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.

Jurgen Klopp was always hopeful that Firmino would be fit for the final and the 27-year-old has worked tirelessly to regain fitness.

He reported to Marbella earlier that his team-mates in order to be put through his paces by the club's strength and rehabilitation assistant David Rydings.
