Roberto Firmino explains Club World Cup final winner and sends scary message to Liverpool rivals

Roberto Firmino has explained the moment that made Liverpool champions of the world for the first time – and believes the Reds are still improving.

Firmino struck nine minutes into extra time to earn the in the FIFA Club World Cup final here in Doha on Saturday night.

Jordan Henderson's excellent pass released Sadio Mane behind the Flamengo back line, with the Senegalese playing the ball inside to Firmino.

The striker then took a touch inside to take Rodrigo Caio out of the game before finishing emphatically with his right foot beyond Flamengo goalkeeper Diego Alves.

And Firmino said: “I scored the winner with the help of my colleagues. A defender from Flamengo was retreating back and I took advantage of the situation.

“We are very pleased with winning. We finally made it!

“It was a very strong match. Flamengo were a match to Liverpool and had a distinguished season, winning the Libertadores.”

Firmino was named the official man of the match, and added: “I am happy winning such an award, and the Champions League.

“We didn't have an easy mission playing against Flamengo, they're an excellent team and had an excellent season.

“Flamengo is doing very well with (coach Jorge) Jesus and played an excellent match against us. It was a tough match for us.

“We were determined to win and we showed that. In every match, Liverpool are playing better.”
