Roberto Firmino and Willian on target as five-star Brazil thrash Peru at Copa America

Brazil put five past Peru as they cemented their spot as favourites for Copa America.

Casemiro opened the scoring for Brazil before goals from Roberto Firmino and Everton before the break.

Dani Alves and Willian also found the net although Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus had a late penalty saved.

The victory sees Brazil cruise into the quarter-finals of the competition and nobody will want to be facing them in the latter stages.

The hosts went ahead after 12 minutes as Casemiro nodded home after a goalmouth scramble from a Philippe Coutinho corner.

Liverpool star Firmino then capitalised on some shoddy goalkeeping to double Brazil's lead.

Peru's Pedro Gallese made a hash of his kick, hitting the ball straight at Firmino with the rebound coming back off the crossbar.

The Brazil star then rounded the hapless goalkeeper before rolling the ball into the net with a no-look finish.

Brazil had a third just after the half hour mark with the in-form Everton again on target.

The winger has attracted interest from Manchester United in recent times and his low shot sneaked inside Gallese's near post and into the net.

Peru barely threatened and found themselves 4-0 down early in the second half.

Skipper Dani Alves was on hand to round off a stylish team move before being mobbed by his teammates.

Chelsea star Willian added a fifth for Brazil in the closing stages with a fine whipped effort from outside the box.

There was still time for Gabriel Jesus to miss from the spot as Gallese made an impressive stop.

Brazil will play one of the two third-placed teams in Gremio in the last eight on Thursday.
