Roberto Firmino and Trent Alexander-Arnold absences explained as Liverpool team-mate stuns Tim Sherwood

Your Liverpool morning digest for Sunday, February 20.

Roberto Firmino and Trent Alexander-Arnold absences explained for Liverpool against Norwich

Jurgen Klopp made seven changes to his team to face Norwich after the Reds had battled to a 2-0 win over Inter Milan in midweek.

Roberto Firmino had come off the bench to replace Diogo Jota at half-time in the San Siro but was ruled out of Liverpool’s clash with Norwich due to a muscle injury, raising doubts over his fitness for next weekend's Carabao Cup final.

His absence allowed Luis Diaz to make his second start for the Reds and the Colombian rewarded Klopp’s decision by getting on the scoresheet in the 3-1 win.

There was also a rare start for Joe Gomez at right-back as the 24-year-old replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold in Liverpool’s backline.

"Luis Diaz, what a player this kid is. I mean, absolutely fantastic,” Sherwood said on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday during yesterday’s triumph at Anfield.
