Roberto Firmino accused of becoming 'huge burden' on Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane

Roberto Firmino's lack of goals is becoming a huge problem for Liverpool, according to Tony Cascarino.

The Brazilian has endured a torrid time in front of goal, managing just one goal in his last 20 Premier League matches for the defending champions.

The Reds forward fired yet another blank in Saturday's feisty 2-2 draw with Merseyside rivals Everton.

It is undoubtedly worrying form for Firmino and manager Jurgen Klopp, whose side have suffered a stuttering start to their title defence.

And Cascarino, the former Republic of Ireland striker, reckons Firmino's lack of goals is becoming an issue for attacking teammates Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Writing in his column for The Times, he said: "It is only one goal in 20 Premier League matches now for Roberto Firmino as the Liverpool forward continues to struggle in front of goal.

"There was nothing particularly wrong with his all-round game against Everton — he linked the play well and was involved in the move for Liverpool’s opener — but his lack of productivity in front of goal is placing a huge burden on Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

"Should this goal drought continue, Firmino cannot afford the creative side of his game to slip."

Ahead of Saturday's draw at Goodison Park, Klopp claimed Firmino's form was not a concern for him at the moment.

He said: “I don’t know when it becomes a problem for me…but it is not even close to becoming a problem.

“These are the things where I have to be different to the outside world.

"I can’t judge moments, periods, like you judge them - for me what is important is how influential the player is, how he works for the team.

“We lost the last Premier League game – before that we had won them all. Bobby hadn’t scored in them but he had been incredibly influential. That is what is important.”
