Roberto Carlos tells Chelsea to build Jorginho statue after Champions League and Euro heroics

Former Brazil full-back Roberto Carlos has suggested that Chelsea should erect a statue of Jorginho at Stamford Bridge following the Italian’s heroics throughout the past year.

The midfielder has been in inspired form since the turn of the year and especially since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.

He was pivotal as the Blues lifted their second Champions League crown against Manchester City, whilst also proving a key figure as Chelsea secured a spot in the Premier League top four and a place in the FA Cup final.

The former Napoli man was one of the Blues’ most productive players throughout last season, having notched eight goals and two assists in all competitions.

Jorginho took that form onto the international stage too, having played every game of Italy’s victorious run to the Euro 2020 final, only missing 15 minutes throughout the entirety of the competition.

Former Real Madrid defender Roberto Carlos has made the bold suggestion that he should be rewarded with a statue following his contributions throughout last season.

Talking to Tuttomercatoweb, he said: “At Euro 2020, I cheered for Mancini’s team, because of the way that team play and they have the right mentality.

“Jorginho was decisive, he would also have been useful for Brazil. After the European Championship and the Champions League, Chelsea should make him a statue.”

It is not the first time that the Chelsea man has received lofty praise following his eye-catching performances for both the Blues and his national side.

Former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has already recommended the midfielder as a nominee for the Ballon d’Or award.

Talking ahead of the Euro 2020 final, he said: “If the European Championship were to win [with Italy], it is clear that he would become one [a contender for the Ballon d’Or].

“He is a refined player, probably not understandable by everyone. You have to set your eyes on him and only watch him in the game. He is so good and intelligent that he makes everything seem easy, rarely anything spectacular remains in your eyes.”
