Robert Williams leaves game vs. Hornets with back injury, won’t return

Due to the absence of Al Horford (rest) and Aron Baynes (left ankle sprain), the Boston Celtics gave rookie center Robert Williams III his first career start in Saturday nigh’s tilt with the Charlotte Hornets.

Williams had two points and three rebounds along with two blocks in 9:32 of action and t was a solid start for the 27th overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft.

The excitement was short lived, however, as he appeared to injure his back while falling on a tip in attempt late in the first half.

It would later be reported that the big man wouldn’t be able return to Saturday’s contest due to a lower back contusion.

The Celtics currently hold a 79-71 lead in the third quarter as star point guard Kyrie Irving is off to a great start with 26 points to lead Boston and Jaylen Brown has 17 points off the bench.

The Celtics magic number to clinch a playoff spot is two games and Boston would like shave another game off that number.
