Robert Williams leads Celtics to win over Griz, LVSL tourney top seed

For the third time in four games, the Boston Celtics were led to victory by a different player. This time, it wasn’t rookie point guard Carsen Edwards — a high-octane scorer — or rookie center Tacko Fall — a gargantuan big man whose become a fan favorite in Las Vegas — who were the most impactful players on the floor but a player who suited up for the Celtics last season.

Second-year center Robert Williams III. The “Time Lord.”

In his best showing of the Summer League circuit, Williams tallied a double-double with 16 points (on 7-9 shooting), 16 rebounds, four assists and a block. While Williams’ finishing around the rim and force on the boards was a welcome sight for the Celtics what may have raised the most eyebrows was his touch and court vision as a facilitator.

Rookie forward Grant Williams, who finished the game with a team-high 21 points (while shooting 4-5 from three-point range) and seven rebounds, was also impressive. He also recorded a team-high plus-minus of +25.

Following the game, Williams would say he’s “not a huge stats guy.”

“I’m just focused on if we win the game or not.”

Frankly, though the Williams’ stood out, it was just a fine game by the Celtics all around. Four other players for Boston — Edwards, Fall, Max Strus and Stan Okoye — finished the game in double-figures and in efficient fashion.

With the win, the Celtics now have the top seed of the Las Vegas Summer League tournament. Their first match of the tournament will be a rematch against the Grizzlies in the quarterfinal round.

The game will take place on July 13 at 1:30 p.m EST.
