Robert the Robot makes his long awaited return to Glasgow

For years, Robert the Robot was a regular sight in Glasgow city centre with his mask, white boiler suit and white gloves as he body popped and danced on the streets.

As one of Glasgow’s most iconic street performers, he was out and about long before Leo the Silent Raver had ever heard Happy Hardcore anthem ‘Have You Ever Been Mellow’ by Party Animals.

For years he disappeared and lived on only in our collective memories - or nightmares judging by how many folk used to run away from him when they saw him.

But after our nostalgia piece on him blew up back in November, Robert decided to dust off the boiler suit and pull on his mask to make a long awaited appearance on Argyle St - near the very same spot where he first started back in 1983 - in aid of charity.

With folk already waiting to see him when he took to the street, even the rain didn't dampen the enthusiasm he was met with by the Glasgow public, who gathered round to take photos and videos and steal a selfie.

And, regardless of whether it was people who were taking a trip down memory lane from their own childhoods or those who were seeing him doing his moves for the first time, he went down a storm.

And Robert the Robot didn't return to Glasgow empty-handed - he is back with his own dance song.

‘Robert The Robot: The Anthem' has been produced by his daughter Ashley aka DJ Ash.
