Robert Snodgrass names former West Ham teammate as one of the Premier League's best players

Ahead of this summer's European Championships former West Ham midfielder Robert Snodgrass has given his glowing verdict of two of his ex-Hammers teammates.

Speaking to The Sunday Post Snodgrass was effusive in his praise for Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal.

The pair are part of the Czech Republic Euro 2020 squad and Snodgrass believes they will play a vital role for their country when the tournament gets underway later this week.

The Czech's will take on Croatia, England and first Scotland in Group D of the tournament, and the former Scotland international has warned his nation what to expect from the West Ham duo.

"Soucek has developed into one of the best midfielders in the English Premier League," Snodgrass said.

“He is tall, brave, clever, powerful and full of energy. He is a real threat at set-pieces, and we will need to keep a close eye on him at free-kicks and corners.

"Lose sight of him for a split second, and he will punish you."

Snodgrass is also wary of the danger Coufal could pose the Scots as he pushes forward from his right-back role.

"Vladimir is also a clever footballer. He is disciplined and follows tactical instructions very well," he added.

"He loves to bomb forward and can deliver a mean cross. I think both of them epitomise what their national team is all about.

"They can never be underestimated, and will cause Scotland problems."

After the Scots take on the Czech Republic they face a crunch clash at Wembley against the 'auld enemy' England but Snodgrass has warned his nation not to look past the first game due to the quality they possess.

"Sure, going to Wembley to play against England is a tall order. Gareth Southgate’s team is full of players from the highest level, and they are not one of the favourites for the tournament for no good reason," Snodgrass said.

"But, before we go down there, we play the Czechs. They are well-organised and they work ever so hard. They also have talent."

The former Hammers fan favourite did allow himself to ever so slightly cast his eye towards the England game and named Declan Rice as the Three Lions' key man.

"I can see Declan being a major player for England this summer," he said.

Before adding: "Overall, I’m looking forward to the tournament, and I’m excited."
