Robert Snodgrass fires Scotland Euro 2020 warning as he gives inside track on his Czech mates

Robert Snodgrass has fired a warning to Scotland to be wary of his two Czech mates ahead of next month’s Euro 2020 opener at Hampden.

The 33-year-old ended his eight-year international career when he retired from Scotland duty two years ago after winning 28 caps and scoring seven goals.

But the passionate Scot will be joining the Tartan Army in cheering on Steve Clarke’s men as they compete in their first major tournament for 23 years.

And the West Brom man knows all about the threat of two key men for Scotland’s first Group D opponents after playing alongside Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal during his time at West Ham.

The ex-Slavia Prague duo have been outstanding for the Hammers this season and Snodgrass, speaking to the Sunday Post, said: “I have an idea of what they are about because Soucek and Coufal were my team-mates.

David Moyes signed both of them for West Ham, and they’ve been unbelievable.

“Soucek has developed into one of the best midfielders in the English Premier League. He is tall, brave, clever, powerful and full of energy.

“He is a real threat at set-pieces, and we will need to keep a close eye on him at free-kicks and corners. Lose sight of him for a split second, and he will punish you.

“Vladimir is also a clever footballer. He is disciplined and follows tactical instructions very well. He loves to bomb forward and can deliver a mean cross.

“Both of them epitomise what their national team is all about. They can never be underestimated and will cause Scotland problems.”

Despite the challenge ahead, Snodgrass is looking forward to the European Championships.

He said: “Overall, I’m looking forward to the tournament, and I’m excited. I know we will play with the heart, and give 100%.

“But we also need to be cute and clever in the three games. We need to show maturity and game management at the right times.”

Scotland will play friendlies against Holland and Luxembourg before taking on the Czechs, England and Croatia.
