Robert Snodgrass drops Scotland return hint as West Ham star makes Scott Brown plea

Robert Snodgrass has opened the door to a shock Scotland return - and wants Scott Brown to join him.

The West Ham attacker retired from international football in October to give younger players the chance to flourish.

Now Snodgrass, 32, who has won 29 caps and scored seven goals for his country, admits he would jump at the prospect of a recall from Steve Clarke.

He also confessed he’d love to be joined by Celtic skipper Brown ahead of next summer’s Euros after the midfielder hung up his Scotland spurs for the second time in February 2018.

Speaking on The Lockdown Tactics podcast with Kris Boyd, Snodgrass said: “I’d never say never for my country.

“If Steve Clarke needed me, he knows my number and where I am.

“It has been an interesting season for me and after I stopped playing with Scotland I got in the side with West Ham, scoring and creating goals between 15 and 20 games.

“I’d never say no to my country. I’ve obviously been retired and enjoyed it at club level.

“Looking at the current squad it’s lacking a bit of leadership. Young Robbo (Andy Robertson) is learning his trade as captain but I don’t think it’s me you need to be asking.

“I think Scott Brown should be coming out of retirement. He’s an elite level player when it comes to leadership, a terrific guy.

“I played with him for Scotland, he’s a winner. You’ve seen Celtic dominate for a large part of his captaincy - and Scotland needs somebody like Brown.”
