The Cure frontman Robert Smith has confirmed that the band have finished recording what will be their first studio album in over a decade.
Appearing on The John Maytham Show, Smith said The Cure had been enjoying their recent string of live shows and "we've just recorded a new album for the first time in 10 years".
Smith added that he was "still doing this for the right reasons" and that, while the group may explore different styles of music, "because it's us doing it, it sounds us".
The currently untitled project was first announced back in 2018 during an interview with Smith about The Cure's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Smith spoke about how the nomination, along with the artists involved in his curation of 2018's Meltdown Festival in London, was what inspired him to finish a new record.
"Primarily because of the Meltdown thing, seeing all these new bands inspired me to do something new," he said. "It's very exciting times for us all round."
The Cure were recently announced as headliners for Glastonbury Festival this year, and will also headline a number of European festivals including Madrid's Mad Cool, NOS Alive, and Roskilde festival in Denmark.
