Robert Saleh continues to endorse Zach Wilson as starting QB for Jets

Since Aaron Rodgers went down with a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 1, many have speculated that the New York Jets could bring someone else in to start under center. While the Jets could certainly add a veteran to the quarterback room, Robert Saleh continues to endorse Zach Wilson as the starting quarterback of the Jets moving forward.

“I do want to make it very clear: Zach’s our quarterback,” Saleh said, via ESPN. “We’ve got a lot of faith in Zach.

Wilson replaced Rodgers on Monday night against the Buffalo Bills after the veteran signal-caller exited on the first offensive drive for the Jets. In relief, Wilson completed 14 of his 21 attempts for 140 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Most importantly, the Jets came from behind to defeat the Bills to avoid starting the season with an 0-1 record. Undrafted rookie Xavier Gipson saved the day with a walk-off punt-return touchdown in overtime to give fans something to cheer about despite their franchise quarterback going down for the season.

Wilson’s woes at quarterback have been well-documented throughout his short career as the Jets acquired Rodgers because of Wilson’s inability to show improvements in his game. Names of experienced quarterbacks have been floated around on social media, whether it be options via trade or free agency.

Even with fans and analysts alike clamoring for the Jets to start someone else, Saleh is adamant about giving Wilson another shot to lead the offense.
