Robert Saleh confident 2 49ers who left practice early will be okay

Wednesday’s practice was rough for the 49ers from an injury standpoint, but it looks like they dodged anything catastrophic. Defensive end Nick Bosa and cornerback Jason Verrett both left the session early, but defensive coordinator Robert Saleh expressed optimism that both players would be alright.

Bosa went down following a running play and had his lower right leg examined by the training staff. The rookie eventually walked off the field slowly under his own power according to reports. Verrett’s injury is undisclosed, although there were no reports of him getting hurt during practice.

Saleh said he didn’t know the extent of either player’s ailment.

San Francisco narrowly avoided another injury when wide receiver Marquise Goodwin slipped and fell while running a route. He got up slowly and spent some time with trainers on the sideline before re-entering practice.

This is exactly what the 49ers needed to avoid during camp. They’d been relatively healthy until Wednesday when eight players were absent and then the two defenders went down during the session.

It’s reached a point with a game Saturday that these injuries may impact who plays in the preseason opener. Both players will undergo MRIs for ankle injuries the team announced.

We’ll provide updates as soon as they become available.
