Robert Rinder 'in mix' to be Piers Morgan's Good Morning Britain replacement

ITV star Robert Rinder could be in line to replace Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain, according to reports, after Piers quit the show on Tuesday.

GMB host Susanna Reid's pal Rob, star of Judge Rinder, is said to be "in the mix" for the show, as ITV bosses reportedly want to echo the on-screen "chemistry" Susanna shared with Piers for the last six years.

An insider has said to The Sun that Robert would immediately fit in due to his friendship with Susanna, and his "no-nonsense" attitude.

Speaking to the publication, a source apparently told them: "The dynamic between the two presenters would be instant because they have been good friends for years — even going on holiday together.

"Though he is often associated with light-entertainment shows, Rob is a no-nonsense lawyer who has the intellectual gravity to tackle any subject.

"And viewers know he will bring a flamboyant element to GMB as well as a sense of fun."

It comes as a petition to bring Piers back onto the show by his fans reportedly reached 200,000 signatures.

Ahead of his exit announcement on Tuesday, over 41,000 people had already complained to Ofcom over Monday's GMB episode and his comments about Meghan Markle, following her and husband Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The host told viewers he was 'sickened' by the 'two hour trashathon' as he accused Harry and Meghan of likening the Royal Family to white supremacists.

He also dismissed Meghan's account of her mental health battle, which has led to him coming under fire from mental health charity Mind.

On Tuesday, he clashed with co-star Alex Beresford over his views, leading to him storming off the set on air just hours before ITV confirmed he had decided to leave the show for good.

ITV confirmed his sudden departure, revealing: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
