Robert Pattinson spotted filming The Batman in Liverpool city centre

Robert Pattinson has been spotted filming for The Batman in Liverpool's city centre.

Production on the latest Caped Crusader flick resumed over the weekend after a hiatus in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, with star Robert Pattinson reportedly testing positive for the virus last month.

The production company had already started setting up for filming around St. George's Hall, including the passageway which leads from William Brown Street down into the cells underneath the hall.

The film, titled The Batman, stars Pattinson as the legendary DC Comics hero and is due to be released in June 2021 by Warner Bros.

It is to be a reboot of the franchise, with Pattinson taking over the iconic role from Ben Affleck who donned the famous Batsuit for big budget films Batman vs Superman and The Justice League.

Over the last few days, St George's Hall has been a hub of activity with production and set crews building scenes.

Photographs on Sunday showed props covering the stairs of the hall, with some suggestion of plot lines revealed. Flowers and tributes adorn the stairs, as well as a framed picture.

Fans have flocked to the scene, keen to catch a glimpse of the action in progress.

American filmmaker Matt Reeves, who is directing the upcoming superhero film, said Liverpool was still to provide the backdrop for Gotham City once filming resumed, despite delays due to the pandemic.

The city is expected to play a massive role in the big Hollywood blockbuster as the crew shoot the remaining 75% of the film.

The Batman production is expected to be filming in the city from October 12 to October 16 with the surrounding area to be augmented with CGI to serve as the downtown area.
