Robert Pattinson's pasta business idea raises a lot of questions

He may be best-known for his illustrious and varied acting career, with blockbuster smashes and indie arthouse films in his repertoire, but Robert Pattinson nearly gave the whole thing up to become a pasta entrepreneur.

The 33-year-old has left the internet baffled after his discussed his wild and frankly bizarre business plan to make pasta a takeaway food in the most recent issue of GQ.

In a bid to try and prove he was onto something, the Twilight star tried to make his unique pasta creation from his own home during the interview, but ended up exploding his oven.

Discussing his master plan, Pattinson explained: “What if pasta really had the same kind of fast-food credentials as burgers and pizzas? I was trying to figure out how to capitalize in this area of the market, and I was trying to think: How do you make a pasta which you can hold in your hand?”

His fascination with this project saw him design “a prototype that involved the use of a panini press”, and he even set up a meeting with Los Angeles restauranteur Lele Massimini, who owns Santa Monica pasta restaurant Uovo.

“His facial expression didn’t even change afterwards. Let alone acknowledge what my plan was,” Pattinson continued. “There was absolutely no sign of anything from him, literally. And so it kind of put me off a little bit.”

However, it seems almost mid-way through the interview that he wanted to give the project, titled Piccolini Cuscino (Italian for Little Pillow), another go – and decided to cook it for the journalist over Zoom.

Combining microwaved penne, sugar, cornflakes, pre-sliced cheese and ‘just any sauce’ in two hollowed out beefburger buns, Pattinson wraps the concoction with tinfoil before seemingly incinerating it in a microwave by mistake.

Naturally, the internet was both confused and enthralled by the winderfully strange interlude, with many taking to Twitter to ask what on earth they’d just read:

While Pattinson is meant to be preparing for the eponymous lead in 2021’s release of The Batman, he is now currently isolating in London blowing up microwaves and “not exercising”, according to the star.

“I… It is weird, but my preferences are…just sort of eat like a wild animal,” he joked about his diet. “Like out of a trash can.”
