Robert Pattinson credits Harry Potter for his acting career

Robert Pattinson might have become a household name for his role as Edward Cullen in Twilight, but in a recent interview on the HFPA In Conversation podcast, he shared that it was his role in the Harry Potter series that had the most impact on his career. Pattinson only appeared in the fourth film of the series as Cedric Diggory but he credits his role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for his acting career.

“I wasn’t going to be acting professionally if it wasn’t for that,” he says of the movie, which came out in 2005. “It was a really nice environment on Harry Potter, even compared to the movies I’ve done since,” he said when asked about the film.

Pattinson also discussed how the press tour for the film’s promotion made an impression, saying, “I remember going to Tokyo for the first time and sitting in my room, looking out over the city and being like, ‘How has this happened?’ It was very special, and I really liked that movie as well.”

Since Harry Potter launched his career, Pattinson famously went on to star in the Twilight series from 2008 to 2012, which he described as a “weird story” in a recent interview with Jennifer Lopez for Variety’s Actors on Actors series.

Post-Twilight, Pattinson appeared in a number of independent films, receiving critical acclaim for his roles across various genres, including a biopic (Queen of the Desert), thriller (Good Time), and even comedy (Damsel).

Most recently, Pattinson starred in the 2019 films The Lighthouse and The King, and he's confirmed to be playing the title role of Batman in the upcoming 2021 film.
