Roberto Mancini sends Gianluca Scamacca Italy message amid mixed start to West Ham career

Italy’s national team manager Roberto Mancini has said he is pleased with the experience striker Gianluca Scamacca is having with West Ham United this season.

The striker, who turned 24 earlier this month, is currently midway through his first season at West Ham, following a £30.5million move to the London Stadium from Serie A side Sassuolo last season.

Scamacca is the club’s top scorer this season with seven goals in all competitions, but has had a mixed start to life with the Irons this term.

Of those goals, just three have come in the Premier League in a season that saw him arrive without a full pre-season due to his move, as well as multiple short-term injury issues throughout the campaign.

Scamacca has been a regular for his country this season and last season, playing in five of Italy’s six matches in the 2022 edition of the UEFA Nations League, including starts both home and away against England, where he now plays his club football.

While his runs of goals in the side have been inconsistent this season, Scamacca has impressed national team manager and former Manchester City boss Mancini, who sees a lot in the tall forward.

Speaking about the West Ham striker, Mancini admits Scamacca is having a challenging experience, but is pleased to seeing him adjust to the Premier League following his move from Serie A in the summer.

“At this moment in time, Italy doesn’t have many great strikers, but we are trying to find them,” Mancini said, as published by Football Italia .

“Scamacca for example is having a good experience, as the Premier League is difficult.”
