Robert Lewandowski reminds Manchester United fans of transfer talks

Robert Lewandowski has reiterated that he was once 'very interested' in joining Manchester United.

The Bayern Munich striker has enjoyed a remarkable 2020 which has seen him finish top goalscorer in his club's triumphant Champions League campaign, win the treble and be honoured with several personal accolades.

However, before he established himself as the best out-and-out striker in the world, United made a move to sign him from Borussia Dortmund.

Lewandowski has discussed his potential move to Old Trafford in the past and has once again reminded supporters that he could have played for the club, revealing he even had a conversation with then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012.

However, Dortmund were unwilling to sell their promising forward and instead United signed Robin van Persie who was instrumental in their Premier League victory.

“After my second year in Dortmund, I had a conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson," the Pole told France Football, via SportWitness.

"He wanted me to come to Manchester. There I was very interested. I can even say I was ready. But Dortmund didn’t want to let me go. It didn’t bother me more than that because things were going well with Borussia.”

Two years on from United's interest, Lewandowski joined Bayern on a free transfer where he has gone on to score 266 goals and counting.
