Robert Lewandowski 'goes on strike', Man Utd to miss out on midfielder and Matic deal

Romelu Lukaku is not the only Chelsea star wanted by Inter Milan while the Blues have been linked with a France striker.

Jose Mourinho is reuniting with a Manchester United midfielder and Newcastle are going back for another Atletico Madrid star. Paris Saint-Germain are competing with Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle for a Juventus star. And there is the latest on Robert Lewandowski’s future.

Here are the top transfer stories from today’s European press.

Top striker goes on strike

Robert Lewandowski appeared at the French Open this weekend to see his fellow Pole Iga Swiatek win the women’s singles title. But the Bayern Munich striker won’t be appearing at pre-season training in the latest escalation of his dispute with the Bundesliga champions, according to Sport1.

Lewandowski has one year left on his contract but wants to force his way out this summer to join Barcelona.

Loftus-Cheek is a wanted man

Negotiations over Lukaku’s return to the San Siro continue but Inter Milan are also interested in signing England midfielder Loftus-Cheek. He was linked with Lazio and his former boss Maurizio Sarri last week.

Now Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that Inter are ready to offer him Champions League football next season. The sports daily claim he is available for €20m but the Italian club, who are also signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a free from Roma, want the 26-year-old from Lewisham on an initial loan. He is reported to be currently earning €3.5m.

Mourinho and Matic to reunite

The loss of Mkhitaryan and a desire to build a team to qualify for the Champions League means Roma will also be busy this summer.

Mourinho, who has been linked with Mauricio Pochettino’s job at PSG, is close to making his former Old Trafford midfielder Nemanja Matic his first signing of the window. The 33-year-old is available on a free transfer and Gazzetta dello Sport reports he has agreed a one year deal worth €4.2m with the option for a second year.

Ousmane Dembele deal is yet to be done

Barcelona have given up on the France striker signing a new deal and Dembele was long expected to sign for Paris Saint-Germain. But the Paris club’s change of transfer boss - Luis Campos has replaced Leonardo - has seen a change of plan from the Ligue 1 champions, according to Le Parisien. Dembele is now back on the market and the French newspaper claims Chelsea are among the clubs who could now be interested as Thomas Tuchel worked with the 25-year-old striker at Borussia Dortmund.

Yannick Carrasco is a Newcastle target

After the successful signing of Kieran Trippier in January, AS reports that Newcastle want another star from Atletico Madrid.

But the Belgian winger, 28, is under contract until 2024 and the Spanish club do not want to sell. The Spanish sports daily claims Newcastle will have to pay the €50m buy-out clause in his contract although they face competition from AC Milan.

Adrien Rabiot could be going home

After three unhappy years at Juventus, the France midfielder has been told he can leave this summer even though he has one year left on his contract.

Corriere dello Sport reports interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle but claim his agent - his mother Véronique Rabiot - is now dealing with his former club Paris Saint-Germain. Rabiot left his hometown club on a free transfer and bad terms in 2019 when he was suspended for going to a nightclub after PSG’s Champions League defeat to Manchester United and for liking an Instagram post by Patrice Evra celebrating the Premier League club's win
