Robert Kraft hasn’t closed the door on Rob Gronkowski’s return from retirement

The New England Patriots head into Thursday night’s game against the Giants with an undefeated 5-0 record. They have the best defense in the league, a stacked offense and … well … Tom Brady.

The 2019 season is going just fine for the Patriots.

But according to owner Robert Kraft, it could get even better for an already-spoiled New England fanbase. See: Kraft isn’t exactly ready to give up on Rob Gronkowski’s possible return out of retirement.

The Patriots owner spoke to reporters ahead of Thursday’s game at Gillette Stadium, and he revealed that Gronk still hasn’t filed his retirement papers with the NFL. And even if Gronk does get around to filing his papers, Kraft said that he would still hold out hope for the star tight end’s return.

Kraft said via PatriotsWire:

“We all love Gronk and I think the bottom line is, he hasn’t put his retirement papers in,” Kraft said. “So we can always pray and hope. That’s a little fact. … When he puts his retirement papers in — although, I think our kicker (Mike) Nugent has his retirement papers in. So even if (Gronk) puts them in. But I think that’s a good academic argument that there is hope still with Gronk.”

Again, at 5-0, the Patriots don’t exactly need Gronkowski, but the Patriots would welcome him back to the lineup with open arms. That goes without saying.

The five-time Pro Bowler recently joined Fox Sports for its college football coverage, and he’s jokingly teased his return in past weeks.
