Is there anything Robert Irwin can’t do? After winning over audiences as the charismatic co-host of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and dominating the dance floor on Dancing With The Stars, the conservationist has set his sights on a new challenge: hosting the 2026 TV WEEK Logie Awards.
Not only is he the first host in over 20 years to be nominated for the Gold Logie in the same year (no biggie), but at 22 years old, he’s also making history as the youngest person to host the awards ceremony.
The historic move has received somewhat of a mixed reaction from the public, with fans of the heartthrob thrilled that he’s taking on such an iconic role, and longtime Logies viewers sceptical about how he will compare to previous legendary presenters and comedians.
Robert Irwin responds to Logies hosting criticism
While Robert will undoubtedly prove critics wrong on Sunday, August 16 — given he’s demonstrated his innate showmanship since birth and will kill the hosting position as he does with all his TV gigs — he told PEDESTRIAN.TV that he’s more focused on “having fun” and making the role his own.
“Someone who’s coming out and giving it a go, I think that’s what we all sort of love and appreciate as Aussies,” he said, adding that he is blissfully unaware of any “naysayers” because he runs his own race.
“My entire message is about bringing fun and passion and positivity, and to try and be someone that the next generation can look up to and go, ‘There’s someone who’s not listening to anyone saying anything negative and just sticking to his guns, leading with a sense of authenticity and passion, and getting stuck in and giving it everything’.”
Robert added that, as an environmental advocate, it’s his job to use his platform and any opportunities he’s offered to “get as many people on board as possible”.
“Our planet cannot afford to listen to anyone who’s trying to get in the way of that sort of message and that mission. We cannot afford to let anyone get in the way of that because that’s how we’ve gotten into a lot of the messes we’ve gotten into on the environmental front,” he asserted.
“We all disagree, there’s a lot of hate going around, but if we can all lead with optimism and we all come together and unite, that’s how we’re going to save the planet. That’s sort of the road test for every facet of life, to not listen to the naysayers.”

Following in Steve Irwin’s footsteps
Ultimately, Robert echoes his late father Steve Irwin’s belief that it doesn’t matter if people remember him, but it is important that people remember his message.
“I don’t care if I’m nominated for a Logie, I don’t care that it’s the youngest person ever hosting the Logies. I care that it’s the first wildlife conservationist hosting the Logies,” he asserted.
“That’s very important to me, and I’m really grateful and privileged, and I take this as an absolute win for my message that I get to come in and spread that message and that sense of fun with a room full of my friends. It’s really, really special for me.”
