Robert Green sends a message to Leeds United fans as he announces retirement

Robert Green has sent a message to Leeds United fans, among others, after he announced his retirement after a decorated career in football.

Now 39, Green has decided to end his long playing career after lifting the Europa League trophy with Chelsea in Azerbaijan on Wednesday night.

Despite departing Elland Road, after one full season with the club, in August 2017 Green’s last competitive appearance was, in fact, for the Whites.

Green featured in the 5-1 EFL Cup win over Newport County on August 22, 2017, but then failed to make any appearances for Huddersfield Town and then Chelsea.

The former Norwich City and West Ham United stopper arrived at Elland Road in July 2016 after the expiry of his Queens Park Rangers contract.

Green featured 47 times for the Whites in 2016/17 and played a key role as the team finished seventh in the Championship.
