Robert Durst: Jurors watch clips from The Jinx at start of murder trial

Jurors in the Robert Durst murder trial have been shown clips from the documentary series The Jinx, in which he appeared to confess to the killings.

Durst, a New York real estate heir, is charged with murdering his best friend Susan Berman in 2000, in order to cover up his previous killing of his ex-wife Kathleen. The latter vanished in 1982, with Durst always denying any involvement in her disappearance.

The historic murders formed the basis of a 2015 documentary series titled The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst, which renewed interest in the case.

Durst was arrested in March 2015, a day before the series came to a close.

At the first day of his trial in Los Angeles, the jury were played an infamous clip from the final episode of the series, in which Durst appeared to confess to the killings.

In the clip, Durst allegedly mutters: “There it is, you’re caught” and “What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course.”

Durst’s defence lawyers successfully rejected an attempt to have further clips shown to the jury, specifically footage from All Good Things, a 2010 movie starring Ryan Gosling as Durst and Kirsten Dunst as Kathleen.

He is charged with murdering Berman, in relation to what she may have known about the presumed killing of Kathleen decades prior.

Durst has pleaded not guilty to the charges. If he is convicted, he could face life in prison.
