In the 2006 comedy hit Tropic Thunder, Robert Downey Jr. took method acting to a whole new level while portraying the character Kirk Lazarus. Known for his dedication to staying in character, Downey Jr. went as far as peeing in character, much to the surprise of his co-star Danny McBride.

During an interview with GQ, McBride shared a humorous anecdote about overhearing Downey Jr. in character while he was using the bathroom on set. The actor's commitment to his role as Lazarus, an Australian method actor who undergoes a controversial pigmentation alteration to portray a Black character, was evident even in mundane moments.

McBride recalled how Downey Jr. was talking to himself in character and even sang a song about going to the bathroom in character, showcasing his dedication to the role.

Tropic Thunder, directed by Ben Stiller, is a satirical action comedy that follows a group of prima donna actors filming a movie about the Vietnam War. When their frustrated director dies, the actors find themselves in real danger and must rely on their acting skills to survive.

The film, which also stars Jack Black, Jay Baruchel, Brandon T. Jackson, and Tom Cruise, received positive reviews upon its release and performed well at the box office, grossing over $195 million globally.

Downey Jr.'s portrayal of Kirk Lazarus earned him critical acclaim, with nominations for several prestigious awards. Although he did not win, the actor's performance was recognized for its depth and commitment to the character.

Currently available for streaming on Peacock and Paramount+, Tropic Thunder continues to entertain audiences with its blend of humor and action.
