Robert De Niro says voting is more powerful than any bomb a day after receiving suspicious package

NEW YORK _ Robert De Niro urged the public to cast their ballots in the upcoming elections a day after his New York City production office was targeted with a suspicious package containing a pipe bomb _ one of several sent to a selection of Democratic officials and Trump critics this week.

"I thank God no one's been hurt, and I thank the brave and resourceful security law enforcement people for protecting us," he said in a statement issued through his representative, Stan Rosenfield.

"There's something more powerful than bombs, and that's your vote. People MUST vote!"

Deputy Commissioner John Miller said a retired NYPD detective who worked security at De Niro's Tribeca Productions reported the suspicious package after seeing similar parcels on television. Police responded early Thursday to the building in Lower Manhattan, which also houses his restaurant, and discovered the package sitting in a security bin.

It came after similar packages were sent to former President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Vice President Joe Biden and other democratic politicians as well as CNN's New York bureau and liberal billionaire George Soros.

Cops on Friday continued to intercept similar suspicious parcels, the latest ones addressed to former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and New Jersey Sen. Corey Booker.

None of the devices detonated and no one was injured. De Niro's eatery, the Tribeca Grill, was slated to open Friday as usual despite the bomb scare.

Still, authorities warned that the "packages contain potentially destructive devices and are dangerous."

The "Good Fellas" actor has never been shy about his distaste for President Trump, at one point even admitting that he'd like to "punch him in the face." And at the recent Tony awards in June, De Niro held off introducing Bruce Springsteen to again condemn the president.

"F_- Trump," he said ahead of the performance. "Down with Trump! It's just f_- Trump!"
