Robby McCrorie to leave Rangers for Queen of the South loan deal

Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie will join Queen of the South on a six-month loan deal.

Record Sport understands McCrorie is expected to flourish in the Championship before returning to Ibrox in January as he bids to push for a first-team place in Steven Gerrard's side.

The 21-year-old, who is contracted to the Ibrox club until 2022, missed the club’s pre-season trip to Portugal as he tied up the loose ends on a loan stint at Palmerston.

Gerrard’s squad is with goalkeeping options right now with Allan McGregor , Wes Foderingham, Jak Alnwick and Andy Firth are vying for one place. McGregor is the undisputed No.1 while the rest are back-up.

McCrorie - who has been capped four times at Scotland under 21 level and represented his country at every level since Under 15s - has been widely tipped as a future Rangers goalkeeper and the natural successor to McGregor.

The shot-stopper spent the second half of last season on loan at Greenock Morton.
