Robby Anderson’s old tweet about not wanting Baker Mayfield on the Panthers is so awkward now

If new Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield is to have success in Carolina, wide receiver Robby Anderson will presumably be a part of it. Before that can happen, though, Mayfield is going to have to win Anderson over.

Anderson came out against his team trading for Mayfield when rumors of the potential pairing first surfaced in April. In response to an Instagram fan page that cited a report calling Carolina the most likely landing spot for Mayfield, Anderson commented “Nooooo.”

And when another Instagram page re-posted Anderson’s comment and said he was against trading for Mayfield, the Panthers’ second-leading receiver doubled down. He responded to that post with “Facts.”

More than two months later and the Panthers did it anyway, adding Mayfield to a quarterback room that desperately needed an upgrade. And, let’s just say things might be a bit awkward to start. But winning over Anderson might not be too difficult. The six-year vet told Pro Football Talk he was just trying to defend Sam Darnold, and if the trade happened “it would be what it is.”

“Just trying to defend the guy who is my quarterback in a sense,” Anderson said. “… That’s it. … I’ve got to make him right and stand up for him.”
