Robbie Williams claims he's too successful to take part in The Masked Singer

Outspoken Robbie Williams has sworn he will never wear a mask, branding the suggestion a “f***ing stupid idea”.

But his four-letter refusal has nothing to do with coronavirus – the singer won’t cover his face to appear on celebrity reality show The Masked Singer.

The talent contest, which features celebrities hidden beneath costumes and masks, is a huge hit on ITV.

But Robbie poked fun at anyone taking part after rumours he might appear on the US version of the show.

The Masked Singer was a surprise hit when it was aired earlier this year (ITV)

He said: “I am not taking 12 weeks out of my fricking schedule to be in a f***ing mask. What a f***ing stupid idea. No, it is not for me.”

The former Take That star, 46, added: “I will just be over there in a stadium doing really well. Ha!”

Robbie is also not tempted by the idea of becoming a robot, even though rapper Lil Wayne wowed fans when he appeared as one on The Masked Singer in the US.

When asked if he fancied dressing up like Wayne, Robbie replied: “No. I’ve sold 85 million albums. I do stadiums.”

Robbie has done reality TV before – he was an X Factor judge in 2018 – but the star says that was down to his wife Ayda Field, 40.

Robbie revealed: “I was on The X Factor because they were really sneaky and offered a job to my wife.

“She was like, ‘Honey, honey, this is amazing, they want me to be a judge’, with puppy dog eyes. And I was like, ‘Great. That means I’ll have to do it too’.

“I had a great time on the show, but if it wasn’t for them offering my wife a job, I would not have done it.’’

Robbie was talking on American radio station SiriusXM to promote his second year of residency at the Wynn Las Vegas.
