Robbie Williams and Ayda Field threatened with being 'beheaded' in Haiti

Robbie Williams has revealed that he was threatened with decapitation by bandits during a charity expedition in Haiti.

The singer, 46, was lending a hand with Unicef in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake when he and wife Ayda Field found themselves in the terrifying situation.

He said: “I got threatened to be beheaded in Haiti. We were going out there to help.

“I was like: ‘Should we go to the next street then?’ and looking back, it was scary.”

Robbie’s wife Ayda, 41, with whom he has four children, added on the couple’s Postcards from the Edge podcast, out today: “I was with you, I too was being threatened to be beheaded as well.”

Robbie and Ayda spent four days in Haiti in April 2010, recording a video for that year’s Soccer Aid tournament which raised funds for the earthquake appeal.

Unicef ambassador Robbie met families affected and has since credited the time he spent with children there with encouraging him to become a father.

He has said: “When you go to somewhere like Haiti, it does make you feel like you want to help. It’s awful what has happened. Working with kids has made me want to have them.”

When the 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti in 2010, the country was one of the poorest in the world, with 70% of the population living below the poverty line.

More than 250,000 lives were lost in the quake and around 1.5million people lost their homes and had to live in camps.

Robbie visited a camp city in Jacmel, and met refugees.

He said at the time: “This earthquake hit children the hardest. They are so vulnerable.

"They’re living day-to-day without the basic things they need and at risk of violence and abuse.

“I don’t know about you, but I think this is wrong and we need to put it right.”
