Robbie Williams admits spending £1m on cars in one day even though he couldn't drive

Robbie Williams always had a driving ambition to be like his idol Elton John.

But one day he took his hero worship a bit too far – and it backfired.

It was a case of “Hello John, got a few new motors?” as the Take That star splashed out nearly £1million on flash cars in a day to compete with the Rocket Man’s fleet.

The only trouble was that Robbie can’t drive.

The 46-year-old singer told a radio show his spending spree was sparked by a visit to Elton’s home when he was 18 and in Take That.

“His house was phenomenal and he had four cars in each garage, Ferraris, Aston Martins and so on,” said Robbie, now worth an estimated £237million.

“It was a moment that made an indelible impression.”

Years later the singer took the handbrake off a yearning to own fast cars too.

“I bought five… easily £170,000 each,” he told TalkSport host Andy Goldstein.

They included a Porsche, a Ferrari, a “Mercedes Russian gangster car”, an Aston Martin and one he can’t recall.

“They all got delivered at the same time,” Robbie revealed.

“I went, ‘What the f*** have I done that for?’ and then I sold them. I didn’t have a licence.”

His brief ownership didn’t jump-start a desire to learn to drive.

“I never say never, but I am totally not interested,” added Robbie.
