Robbie Savage insists Rangers are 'bigger' than Premier League clubs as he turns tables on Chris Sutton prediction

Robbie Savage insists Rangers are bigger than most Premier League clubs.

The pundit responded to Chris Sutton 's prediction Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard would be snapped up by an English top flight side next season.

Rangers have soared 19 points clear of Celtic at the Premiership summit following Saturday's derby win.

Gerrard has long been touted as a future Liverpool boss but Savage is unsure there are many Premier League clubs which represent a step from his current.

“Chris asked the question at the beginning of the show ,” said Savage on BBC 606.

“If Steven Gerrard wins the title with Rangers and it would be a fantastic win, it’s over, if he does that then Chris said ‘would he get a job or would he go to the Premier League in England?’

“For me, Rangers are bigger than a lot of teams in the Premier League in England.”

Earlier this week, Anfield legend Phil Thompson admits he believes Gerrard could well succeed Jurgen Klopp in a switch reminiscent of Graeme Souness' move to Merseyside.

He told the From The Horse's Mouth podcast: “If it was good enough for Graeme to get his first managerial job at Rangers and then get Liverpool off the back of it, I would think Steven’s got a fair chance of succeeding Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

“Rangers were in a better position when Graeme went in there than what they were under Stevie."
