Robbie Savage hands Rangers 'Glasgow is blue' crown as Celtic loss has Chris Sutton bracing for social media boasts

Robbie Savage is handing the derby bragging rights to Rangers after their 3-0 win over Celtic - but Chris Sutton isn't having it.

The former Parkhead striker said in the aftermath of Saturday's defeat at Ibrox that Michael Beale's side had won the 'doesn’t matter trophy' thanks to goals from Todd Cantwell, John Souttar and Fashion Sakala. It was a game viewed by some as a dead rubber, with Celtic already confirmed as League Cup and Premiership champions, with a Scottish Cup final to come against Inverness after they overcame their rivals at the last four stage.

Pundit Savage was introducing his and Sutton's 606 show on BBC Radio 5Live with a rundown of the day's action in the English Premier League and Scotland's biggest fixture, when he said to his co-host, "It was a game you said didn't really matter. Rangers win it 3-0, Rangers were very good today Christopher. Glasgow's blue!"

The last quip prompted laughter from the Celtic hero, who responded with: "I love watching the Glasgow derby games but I just had my eye on it today. I wasn't interested. It didn't mean anything really. I just don't get it, well done Rangers, win the games that don't matter, you have won the doesn't matter trophy.

"In the games which counted this season, Celtic won the League Cup final, knocked them out the Scottish Cup, spanked them 4-0 earlier this season. Rangers win a game that doesn't matter, well done!"

Savage wasn't having Sutton's claims it was a derby of no consequence. He asked 'You said th game is irrelevant, it is still a derby, it is still Rangers vs Celtic' before then putting 'has the gap closed' to the former forward.

Sutton responded: "There is nothing on that game. The games that mattered this season, Rangers didn't turn up, that is a fact, Celtic won the Premiership at an absolute breeze.

"I mean, well done Rangers. But Glasgow is blue and all that nonsense, there are Rangers players who may probably tweet that out this evening. This season has been an absolute disaster for them. Has the gap closed? Do you win a closed the gap trophy as well?

"It's about winning and I think the last month truth be told Celtic have faded a little bit. Rangers needed to keep thee pressure on, they didn't, it was Celtic Reserves, it was like a bounce game for Celtic."
