Robbie Savage fights Lyle Taylor's corner as Rangers linked striker tipped for lofty pay packet

Outspoken Robbie Savage reckons Lyle Taylor should give his detractors the silent treatment in wake of his defiant Charlton power move.

The 30-year-old's decision to sit out Charlton's final Championship fixtures has raised eyebrows with a money-spinning exit looming.

Taylor had been strongly linked with Rangers and big-spending Turkish giants Galatasaray in recent weeks.

The ex-Falkirk and Partick Thistle man has come in for criticism in some quarters with Record Sport pundit Chris Sutton admitting he'd "pin him up against the wall" if he was a teammate.

But the Celtic icon's on-air sparring partner Savage doesn't subscribe to that theory and he's urging the Montserrat international to stick to his guns and land a life-changing pay day.

Speaking to BT Sport, Savage said: "I’d do exactly the same thing in Lyle Taylor’s situation.

“He’s got a potential dream move and earn four or five times as much for his family.

“He’s been around the lower leagues and helped Charlton get into the Championship.

“They’re really struggling at the minute and he’s probably one of their best players.

“I agreed with his decision not to play in these games because the difference is, as a Premier League player, you’re going to be earning thousands of pounds every week.

“The average is £70,000 a week.

“For Lyle Taylor, he might be on £500 or £600 a week and will be going to life-changing sums of money.”

Rangers continue their quest for new arrivals with Steven Gerrard and sporting director Ross Wilson looking to add new faces after the arrivals of Ianis Hagi and Calvin Bassey.

Meanwhile, despite reports in France linking the Ibrox side with a move for Algerian midfielder Haris Belkebla, Mailsport understands the club have no interest in the Brest player.
