Robbie Savage backs Liverpool to sweep aside Cardiff City and win Premier League and Champions League double

Robbie Savage reckons Liverpool will breeze past Cardiff City this weekend, pip Manchester City to the Premier League and also win the Uefa Champions League for good measure.

The 39-times capped Wales international and leading newspaper, radio and TV pundit makes his bold prediction about a sensational Liverpool double in his column for the Mirror .

Next up for Jurgen Klopp's aces are the relegation battling Bluebirds, who are desperate to spring an upset in the Welsh capital as they seek to overhaul Brighton down at the bottom.

But Savage reckons Liverpool will win every one of their remaining four Premier League games, including against Neil Warnock's Cardiff, whereas he feels title rivals Manchester City will slip up.

The day Cardiff City and Liverpool fought out perhaps the craziest game of football we've seen in Wales this century

He also tips the Reds to ease past Barcelona in the Champions League semis and then go on to beat either Tottenham or Ajax in the final.

Of the title race, Savage says: "Manchester City will find the disappointment and psychological impact of saying goodbye to the quadruple so damaging, I think they will do well to defend the Premier League crown.

"City will need to forge a sensational mentality to win their last five games – because I don’t see Liverpool dropping any points between this weekend and the winning post.

"The confidence they have gained from maximum points in home games with Tottenham and Chelsea looks like it has stoked their boiler for the title run-in.

"The prize many Man City fans wanted most – the Champions League – has gone.

"But the prize many Liverpool fans crave most – a first title in 29 years – is still there to be won.

"They are favourites in my book to win the title and the Champions League."

Sadio Mane and Liverpool are unstoppable, says Savage (PA)

Of the Barcelona semi, he said: "I think Liverpool will beat them and go on to lift the trophy in Madrid.

"Yes, they have the genius of Lionel Messi, and the Kop know about Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho’s quality.

"But can Barcelona’s defence cope with Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane? I’m not sure they can."
