Outspoken pundit Robbie Savage believes reported Nottingham Forest target Lyle Taylor has made the right decision to sit out the remaining games of the Championship season.
The Reds were one of a number of clubs linked with the Charlton Athletic striker in January, along with Championship rivals Brentford and Bristol City, while Rangers and Turkish outfit Galatasaray are said to have joined his list of admirers in recent weeks.
Taylor will become a free agent at the end of this month, when his contract with the Addicks expires.
He has chosen not to sign a short-term deal to see out the rest of the campaign with the club and ruled himself out of Charlton’s three matches in June - while he is still under contract - as he is worried about picking up an injury.
It is a controversial decision which has seen him come in for criticism from some, but Savage believes the 30-year-old has made the correct call as he seeks a move elsewhere.
"I’d do exactly the same thing in Lyle Taylor’s situation,” he told BT Sport.
“He’s got a potential dream move and to earn four or five times as much for his family.
“He’s been around the lower leagues and helped Charlton get into the Championship.
“They’re really struggling at the minute and he’s probably one of their best players.
“I agreed with his decision not to play in these games because the difference is, as a Premier League player, you’re going to be earning thousands of pounds every week.
“The average is £70,000 a week.
“For Lyle Taylor, he might be on £500 or £600 a week and will be going to life-changing sums of money.”
To keep his fitness levels up to scratch, Taylor has been doing some training with South London Sunday League club SE Dons, which is run by grime artist Don Strapzy.
